October Tree performs at the Garage before the Super Bowl

October Tree is the stage name for the solo project of former rocker Jay Wildner. As a teenager, Jay received his first guitar as a gift. By the end of the same day, he could play along with most songs on mainstream radio. After a fun run with the Madison, WI-area rock band The Exchange from 1983 – 1988, he turned down an offer from a Chicago band playing to crowds of thousands for a “real” job in the family business and raising a family. In late 2020, he appeared publicly at the urging of a friend. Since then, Jay has appeared at venues across his home state of Wisconsin including Leinie’s Lodge, the Garage – Wausau, O’so Brewing, Knuth Brewing, District 1 Brewing, River Jams, Hinder Brewing, and dozens more from Chilton to Chippewa Falls. He has been approached by several bands to sit in or join, been asked to tour/record with another performer, and recently been approached by an out-of-state label.
October Tree plays an eclectic list of multi-genre covers (rock, pop, country, hard rock, Americana, a little blues and an occasional jazz version) and autobiographical originals (“Remembering/Everything”, “Whenever”, “Paradise”, etc.) that connect with the listener through soaring, emotionally-expressive vocals and sassy strings presented in a remarkably rhythmic style with the utmost authenticity of just six strings and one voice. Jay strives to be a little more cerebral, singing as he simultaneously weaves bass and lead lines within the chord progression of challenging songs – no recorded tracks needed! Often, there will be parts of one song seamlessly intertwined within another, as Jay expresses a personal message or feeling to his audience. Jay adds new material constantly, so you can expect fresh arrangements covering Chris Stapleton, Prince, U2, Zach Bryan, Goo Goo Dolls, Stevie Wonder, Tyler Childers, Pearl Jam, Ed Sheeran, Cody Johnson, Michael Jackson, MatchBox Twenty, Foo Fighters and Morgan Wallen among others.
Now October Tree launches into 2024 with the “My Personal Delinquency” Tour. With poignant, indie-style originals and fresh takes on covers you will hear why his arrangements of acoustic guitar and superb vocals have drawn the attention of industry professionals from CA to TN. You will enjoy an elevated level of solo acoustic musicianship, done without gimmicks.
