“In the Village…” with Travis Brown
September 24 @ 6:00 pm - 6:45 pm
Join us for engaging and interesting reading with Wausau poet Travis Brown as he shares his new collection at Whitewater Music Hall.
Brown, a nurse and former UW-Marathon County English instructor, will read from his 2021 book of poems, “In the Village That is Not Burning Down,” a memory book in which falling is a kind of flying, a cough is a precursor to song, and the local myths are sacred and carved into the bathroom stalls. Brown will read out loud from this sonic collection, including poems that tell of Henry LaMothe, famous for his performance of the highest dive into the shallowest pool, and invite us to consider the innate sexiness of hammers, ropes, and trains.
Free and open to the public, and please note that this event takes place at Whitewater Music Hall, and masks are required for all patrons (regardless of vaccination status) inside the venue. Call the Marathon County Public Library at 715-261-7230. Also, stick around at Whitewater after Travis for a presentation by Wausau native Charles Hughes on his new book about rapper Bushwick Bill!
