Wausau Center Mall Demolition Progress

Business as Usual Downtown as Crews Make Steady Progress on Wausau Center Mall Demolition

June 22, 2021

Last week crews started demolition into the Wausau Center Mall building heading west, dismantling the center corridor. Progress has been steady and on track. See photo gallery below from last week’s progress.

“The mall demolition has not interfered with downtown events, shopping or dining,“ said Blake Opal-Wahoske, Wausau River District executive director. It has been business as usual downtown. I am looking forward to another week of Dining on the Street and Wednesday night’s Concerts on the Square.”

Downtown Wausau Dining on the StreetDining on the Street is held on Wednesdays and Saturdays from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. including restaurants down Third Street. On both days, streets will close at 4 p.m. for set up. The City of Wausau will have signs up to reroute traffic during these times.

Concerts on the Square is held on Wednesdays from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on the 400 Block through the summer. This week features “Big Mouth,” a fun and upbeat band. Bring your chair!

Both mall parking ramps are open during the demolition and free the first two hours and after 6 p.m.

As this and other refreshing changes are taking place in Downtown Wausau, make sure to check out the calendar of events for summer entertainment.
